Sunsets - The Farewell Tour
As we alluded to yesterday, we have some massive news for you. At a press conference in Sydney this morning all five band members announced their most extensive Australian tour ever! In what has been an agonising decision for the band, they have also announced that the “Sunsets” tour around the nation will be their last ever. Powderfinger will disband as a touring and recording band following this tour.
In a statement read out by Bernard, the band said that “With the completion of our last album, Golden Rule, we feel that we have said all that we want to say as a musical group. We firmly believe that it is our most complete and satisfying album and can't think of a better way to farewell our fans than with music that we all believe in and also with, hopefully, our best tour to date.”
Dry your eyes fans, we still have a massive amount of excitement in store for you. The “Sunsets” tour will include shows in 21 different cities across every state and territory and be stretched over a seven week period from early September through to late October. Tickets will go on sale 9am Friday 30th April. Stay tuned for fanclub pre-sale information.
To add to the fun, the band will be supported by JET for all shows except the first three. The dates in Newcastle, Gold Coast and Brisbane will be supported by THE VINES.
The band also announced today that they will be partnering with Yalari on the tour. Yalari sponsors Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from regional, rural and remote communities to attend boarding schools all around the country, so they can receive a first class education through full boarding scholarships at the highest achieving secondary schools. Yalari is an organisation that looks to the improvement of the standard of living of Aboriginal people all around Australia by lifting education standards and creating inspirational incentives to children that would not ordinarily be afforded these types of opportunities. Please take a moment to check out more about Yalari at www.yalari.org
That’s about it for the newsflashes today! We have lots more news coming your way, so keep an eye on your inboxes and the Powderfinger website for more news soon.

The botched job done by the FSB on Litvinenko cnanot reasonably be seen as the result of incompetence, as the dosage of polonium 210 used on him should have been sufficient to cause death within two weeks, and had that been the case, the poison would have been impossible to identify, as it would have decayed to the point where it would have been virtually non-existent. But Litvinenko, due to extraordinary health, lived on for approximately a month after the radioactive material was administered. It was only two hours before he succumbed that the polonium was identified; two hours later, and it would never have been detected.Let me get this straight You actually believe that Litvinenko's physical health actually changed the half life of a radio active material? And his strong health caused the polonium to last longer in his system? That is the biggest load of crap that I have read, well, since your previous post about the collapse of the Soviet Union being a part of the Russian plan for world domination. Please keep posting because I am finding this humorous.

So sad to hear such an iconic and amazing band is calling it a day...your music will be played by me for many, many years to come, as you simply have a song for every mood, emotion and every occasion!!!

A great career you lads have had. Like the legendary You Am I, it's a shame you didn't get the recognition Internationally that your music deserved. Speaking of You Am I, is there any chance you are going to add your good mates as another support band? Whether their added with The Vines or Jet, your final shows would certainly rival your Across The Divide tour with Silverchair if you add them! A great night of legendary Aussie Rock either way! Cheers lads

Powderfinger, you guys are all class! Other bands I've loved over the years either dissapear or end because of some tragedy, but for you guys to give your fans the opportunity to see you in concert and know that this is their chance to say goodbye is such a gift so you can definitely walk away with your heads held high. I'm sad and I'll miss you but look forward to seeing you guys in concert one last time. All the best for the future and lots of love!!!
